“There’s a lot overlap with polyamory and BDSM, polyamory and swinging.” That doesn’t mean, however, that polyamorists are always casual about relationships; they take them very seriously.
“It’s not for people who are afraid of relationships,” Veaux said, noting that that’s a common misconception about polyamory.
